Everyone has a favorite comfort food, but macaroni and cheese is often high on the list. It’s a dish that can be simple and classic, dressed up with add-ins like bacon or barbecue, and satiates kids and adults alike. As the weather cools it becomes even more craveable, which means you’ll find it on menus across Denver. From IPA-based offerings at Hops & Pie and Highland Tap to Mizuna‘s decadent lobster-lacedversion, here are 12 places to find delicious mac and cheese.

Made with IPA and cheddar, Hops & Pie’s mac and cheese also features smoked ham and English peas. A gluten-free option utilizes quinoa pasta.
Choose from four varieties at either location of this Southern-style eatery (a second outpost opened in Capitol Hill earlier this year). There’s the classic preparation, blackened chicken, barbecue, or breakfast, which features grit croutons, bacon, and an over-easy egg.
The recipe here calls for Avery IPA, as well as fontina, aged white cheddar, and parmesan with toasted homemade breadcrumbs. You also can’t go wrong with the addition of bacon.
Though well-known for its cocktails, this LoHi speakeasy also turns out some great bites, including mac and cheese with cheddar mornaise and sage breadcrumbs.
For lunch or dinner the Central mac and cheese awaits you, made with Wisconsin cheddar mornay sauce and pangritata. Known as poor man’s parmesan, it’s breadcrumbs toasted with garlic and herbs.
Though this spot in the Curtis Hotel recently underwent a menu overhaul, the lobster mac and cheese remains, providing the flavor of cognac cream, mascarpone, and grana cheese.
Come early and with cash for this side dish, served from a straightforward, childhood-reminiscent recipe, along with comfort food like fried chicken.
Available as a side or entree, the cheesy goodness is a favorite at this modern Uptown diner. Jazz things up by adding steubie snacks—chunks of pork rolled in sugar and deep-fried—into the mix.
This longstanding dish earned accolades on Food Network Challenge, with its blend of poached lobster, mascarpone, and elbow pasta. Chef Frank Bonanno also serves different varieties of mac and cheese at Lou’s and Russell’s Smokehouse.
The Cheez-It and green onion-topped mac here mixes cheddar, asiago, and monterey jack, but there’s also a vegan option.
At chef Mark Fischer’s Cherry Creek eatery, the mac and cheese uses gruyere and mustard breadcrumbs for the pasta that’s available on the lunch and dinner menus.
Solera’s white cheddar mac and cheese with asparagus, English peas, Marcona almonds, and truffle oil is currently offered during happy hour, though it’s been paired with scallops on the dinner menu in the past.
